Islamabad: There is currently no decision regarding the military trial of Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister and Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, as reported by The News International.

While some federal ministers have suggested that Imran Khan should be tried under the Army Act as the alleged mastermind behind the May 9 attacks, no official decision has been made. The civil government, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other ministers, has repeatedly accused Imran Khan of being the main planner behind the violence.

Although the military establishment has not directly named Imran Khan, they have indirectly hinted at his involvement, aligning with the claims made by the civil government. FIRs (First Information Reports) are being registered against Imran Khan in connection with the May 9 attacks based on evidence collected by the police and statements given by previously arrested individuals involved in arson.

Imran Khan has been nominated in at least six FIRs filed in different police stations of Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and Mianwali, and it is expected that more FIRs will include his name. However, no decision has been made yet regarding trying him under the Army Act.

According to information provided by the federal government to the Supreme Court, 102 civilians who were arrested in relation to the May 9 violence are being held by military authorities for trial under the Army Act. It has been reported that women and individuals under the age of 18 will not be tried under the Army Act.

If Imran Khan is to be tried under the Army Act, his custody will be handed over to the military authorities, similar to the other suspects being tried. Imran Khan has already appeared before two Joint Investigation Teams (JITs) to provide his statement on 12 cases registered under the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), Anti-Terrorist Act (ATA), and Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).

During his statement, Imran Khan emphasized that he does not harbor any hatred towards Pakistan or its national institutions. He expressed his respect for the Pakistan Army, fallen soldiers, and Ghazis (war heroes). Imran Khan denied any involvement of PTI workers in the May 9 incident, stating that it was a conspiracy against him and his party.

Imran Khan claimed that the government and law enforcement agencies were trying to trap him and his party in legal troubles, asserting that he would not accept responsibility for the occurrence. He maintained that there was evidence of a conspiracy linked to the incident and accused those involved of attempting to eliminate him from politics. Imran Khan expressed confidence that their plans would not succeed.
